Hosting international sports events such Olympics and Word Cup places a significant financial pressure on those countries, which is often considered unreasonable. In my opinion, while these events can benefit to economic and social growth of host countries, the high costs and potential drawbacks mean that they should be carefully organised and planned.
On the one hand, such a sporting events requires a lot of money and huge expenses. Host countries spend billions for building stadiums, roads and hotels, many of which are left unused afterwards. During preparation for the event, roads are frequently closed, leading to major traffic jams, which causes significant inconvenient for local residents. Moreover, these massive investments could be directed on the other more urgent social issues such as healthcare, education or housing. Investment on those fields would bring more long-term benefits to the country and its citizens.
On the other hand, hosting international sporting events has many advantages. Firstly, it boosts tourism, as thousands of people from around the world come to watch the competitions, which generates income for hotels, restaurants and local businesses. Secondly, such events create opportunities for people who are looking for temporary work, because they need a large number of staff during the event and its preparation. Moreover, such events can increase international reputation, of the host country, showing its ability to organize large-scale events and attract global attention.
In conclusion, I partially agree with the statement that it has some drawbacks such high costs and some discomfort for citizens while preparation works. However, there is some advantages like development of economics and local residents employment.
