Over the last two or three decades, international tourism has expanded dramatically due to globalization and easy transportation. A growing number of people now travel overseas for business, other cultural experiences or just leisure. However, is this development positive, or are there more drawbacks than advantages? In this essay, I will critically explore pros and cons of international tourism and give some examples.
I will start by looking at advantages. One of the major plus point of tourism is economical growth. Global tourism contributes to local budget, because tourists spend money to accommodation, transporting, cultural activities, which creates opportunities for vacancy and stimulate small local industries. For instance, countries such as Thailand, Spain and France benefit from tourism-related revenue. As a result, there will be rapid change in country’s budget. Additionally, tourism often encourages governments to invest infrastructure, such as airports, roads, and public facilities. This benefits not only visitors, but also create amenities to local industries. Moreover, international tourism effects connections. It improves friendship relations among countries.
Nevertheless, there are notable drawbacks. Environmental problem is one of the most significant concern worldwide. Popular locations such as beaches, forests are often polluted by tourists and they suffer from overconsumption of natural resources. For example, Southeast Asia and Caribbean islands have been damaged by poor management. Excessive tourism activities also contribute to air pollution. Additionally, popular destinations are often overcrowded. It reduces comfort for local people and tourists, often result in discomfort and unpleasantness. Furthermore, if country hosts more guests, costs are sharply risen and incomes decrease.
To conclude, there are both positives and negatives to international tourism. In spite of the fact that it provides economic benefits, cultural development and so on. Personally, I believe it is important to bear in mind that tourism lead us to those promising developments. Most countries have a chance to secure better future from tourism.
