In a comprehensive context, although an academic subject is claimed as “valueless” in contributing to the prosperity of a country, it will still provide valuable assets to the nation. Therefore, we should not label the term “not useful” on any subjects regardless of its direct or non-direct contribution to the wealthy status of a country.
Evaluated in a broader extent, the first valuable point of the education of an academic subject is its application to related fields. For example, the teaching of a language contributes enormously to the development of the country’s diplomacy. A linguist who obtains the knowledge of using a right sentence with a right purpose and in a suitable situation can become an excellent diplomat. When a country posseses generations of well-taught diplomats, its international relationship will be strengthened for the economic prosperity.
Looking at another viewpoint, learning is the way of nurturing passions, hence creating contentment in life. Ultimately, its value improves human well-being and the wealthiness. For a person who are pursuing the astronomy, their joyfulness comes from the immersement of their researches of planery universe. A person whose passion is classical literature will find happiness in investigating cutural and societal values through one-hundred-year-old works. In an apple-to-apple basis regarding valued benefits, the value of contentment is as equally important as this of wealthiness.
In conclusion, regarding knowledge learning, whether a subjects can make a person happier or richer should be equally valued. Therefore, the richness of knowledge of what learning provides play a pivotal role and should be sustained for long-term value for life.
