In our interconnected and global world, there are requirements for hosting multi-participant sports events in some qualified countries with a large amount of money. While some individuals considered that these extra funds should be allocated to other meaningful aspects instead of conducting sports activities, the opposite claimed diversely. In this essay, I will delve into both sides although my preference lean towards the former.
Apparently, numerous merits come with the conduction of the international sports competitions such as Olympic Games or football World Cup. First, the host country can advocate its own culture to all comers, which will endeavor to shoulder the responsibility of spreading the deep meaning of their own culture as well as consolidating the global status. For example, athletes who will engage in the event come from all around the world with its own unique culture background and they can get access to a new, fresh experience with a total different culture and emotions from a window through which they can observe the commonalities and resonances between different cultures, penetrating deeply into the soul of a culture. Second, even though substantial budgets are necessary for establishing enormous facilities and buildings preparation, these spending cuts will reflux in the long run. To elaborate, those events sever as an opportunity to help transform their economies to achieve inclusive and sustained long-term run with the background of a stagnating economic performance.
Nevertheless, some individuals criticize this as a waste of money. Although it is objective that the financial support act as a pivotal role in pursuing such global events successfully, totally denying any attempt solely by the factor of finances results in an oversimplified and myopic understanding of the country’s long-run development. To be more specific, if we put our view beyond this permanent compilation, global events like Olympic Games was proposed in the hope of getting more people to be aware of the value of exchanges among different civilizations and boosting confidence in cultural exchanges and cooperation thus creating a more well-being society for the public.
In conclusion, taking charge of international sports events promotes the establishment of more harmonious and balanced international relationships and reinforce the domestic economy and living standards, so I completely agree with the statement that a country should hold big sports events.
