It is argued that elder people should continue to work when they still are able to do. While this may bring some certain advantages for them, I partly disagree with this view and believe that they should take the retirement.
On the one hand, there are some positive impacts that working at the old age will bring to older individuals and companies. Firstly, senior employees can offer great advice to company and junior staffs. Indeed, since they have been working in a long time, they will be able to gain deeper insights into a specifical industry, leading to expertise skills that considered as true asset for the company. These valuable experience that they obtained in working history can delivery to the next generation and help companies strive to success. Secondly, to continue to work at old ages will help people feel motivated to create innovative breakthroughs. For instance, in some prestige research have shown that almost professors and doctors who have profound impacts into academic research fields and great discoveries for humanity in the fields of medicine, science and education, are over 50 years.
On the other hand, it seems to me that the elder should retire when it comes to certain ages. The initial reason is because they have worked in such a long time and now it is time for taking a break to traveling, exploring new places with friends and family. The old have may still chances to see the world before time deprives them of good health. For example, grandparents have nothing but money and time. They are also carefree to their children who are already mature and independent. Another reason is that old people can spend quality time for their family if they were too busy for work at their young ages. This is the perfect time to somehow compensate and support family members, especially their children when they have kids. In Vietnam or other Asian countries, grandparents usually take responsibility for taking care for their grandchildren due to busy parents at work.
In conclusion, although it is great way for the old to continue to work if possible, I still hold the belief that they should take the retirement when it comes to certain ages so they can enjoy life to the fullest.
