It is often debated whether the extinction of animal species, such as dinosaurs, is a natural phenomenon that should be left to occur without human intervention. While extinction has historically been a natural part of Earth’s evolutionary process, I firmly believe that in the modern era, humans have both a moral and practical obligation to actively prevent the extinction of animal species, especially those endangered by human activities.

Extinction is undoubtedly a natural process that has shaped biodiversity over millions of years. The disappearance of dinosaurs approximately 65 million years ago was caused by catastrophic environmental changes beyond human influence. This example demonstrates that some extinctions occur naturally due to factors such as climate shifts, volcanic activity, or asteroid impacts. Therefore, some argue that humans should not interfere with nature’s course, as intervention could disrupt ecosystems and the natural balance.

However, the current rate of extinction is unprecedented and primarily driven by human actions such as habitat destruction, pollution, climate change, and overexploitation of wildlife. These anthropogenic factors have accelerated the loss of countless species, threatening ecological stability and biodiversity worldwide. Since humans are the main contributors to this crisis, we bear the responsibility to mitigate its effects. Ignoring this would be ethically irresponsible and short-sighted.

Furthermore, many animal species play crucial roles in maintaining ecosystems and supporting human life. Pollinators like bees are essential for global food production, while predators help control pest populations. The loss of such species can trigger a cascade of environmental problems, affecting agriculture, health, and economies. Protecting biodiversity is also vital for scientific research and medical advances, as numerous life-saving drugs are derived from compounds found in animals and plants.

In conclusion, although extinction is a natural phenomenon, the current wave is largely caused by human activity. It is imperative that humanity takes responsibility by investing in conservation efforts to preserve endangered species, ensuring the sustainability of life on Earth for future generations.
