Band 5: It is a natural process that animal species such as dinosaurs become extinct. There is no reason for people to prevent this from happening? (User-Written IELTS Writing Task 2 Essay)

The extinction of various breeds was a natural process, which is evident by the disappearance of the dinosaurs. Their absence was inevitable compared to humans nowadays who indirectly caused the decline in biodiversity. Consequently, it is obvious that some people believe that all endangered species should be saved from their extinction. While their extinction is inevitable, others demand our responsibility from protecting these species.

First and foremost, rescue and reserve these species are advantageous to some extent. Firstly, since evolution, genetic diversity, and science as a whole are humanity’s aim. Hence, the omnipresence of these species, their body and their characteristics might create significant advancements. People like archeologists, biologists have had unbelievable paradoxes that could be solved by these types of animals. For instance, pterodactyl, a flying dinosaur would be worthwhile since they are cooperative, intelligent and its features are valuable scientifically. Secondly, to research numerous breeds efficiently, organizations would demand and be responsible of a huge workforce which reduces the massive number of unemployed worldwide.

On the other hand, preventing them from extinction is a wild act against nature and might cause us drawbacks. One reason is that it would require a king’s ransom to thoroughly portray and implement such a revolutionary project. These expenses are notable, for instance : machinery, professionals in charge of raising these animals, builders who build infrastructures to contain, … Inevitably, these prices are going to soon be skyrocketing due to the large scale of endangered ones, not to mention that the drastic and constant demand in funds especially during inflation would heavily affect the economy. Furthermore, if we somehow manage to save the majority, their existence might be threatening to humanity since there are large differences related to attitude, language barrier, way of living,… Not all types are easily domesticated and there is a great probability that some wouldn’t be as comfortable to deal with as others like the infamous T – Rex. In addition, our interference of such a natural process ( extinction ) is a cruel act towards these breeds because we would force them into an industrial lifestyle, stucking in laboratories, pleasing humans – which wasn’t meant for them – and leading them to a more devastating fate.

In conclusion, it is still a conundrum whether rescuing these endangered animals is ethical. I believe that there are various positive impacts in saving them, although this decision has some important disadvantages.
