It’s often argued that public funds should be invested in disease prevention or treatment. Despite the fact that many people prioritize healthy lifestyle, from my perspective, I believe that illness cure is more important.
A valid reason is that the government might not be able to control the citizen’s lifestyle all the time. Therefore, it is not easy to detect if the people are making the right choices for their lives or not, and in this case the funds may not fulfill their purpose. Moreover, many people have developed several bad habits including smoking, drinking alcohol as well as preferring a sedentary lifestyle. All these circumstances could not be easily changed, and the authorities will not probably be able to manage this by its prophylaxis programs.
Another reason to consider is that the health system may be in need of funds to improve the infrastructure, buy equipment and devices, train the healthcare staff, and hire more doctors. These funds could be also directed to the health insurance system to secure easy access to free treatments for low-income people. Furthermore, many hereditary diseases, such as diabetes, blood hypertension and cancers cannot be prevented, but they need to be treated. As these illnesses are chronic ones, free treatment should be provided for all patients. Similarly, sudden injuries cannot be prevented, but they need to be checked directly with the doctor and treated or go for surgery.
By way of conclusion, although many peoples are supporting the prevention funding, I hold the notion that investigating the health funds in providing free health insurance and the treatment for chronic diseases and surgeries can be more crucial.
