Recently, there has been considerable debate about whether it is more crucial to hear positive news about environmental problems than negative news. While some people believe that this kind of information can weaken the moral spirit of the general public, others contend that it is more sensible to educate people about the issues we are facing. Although positive news plays a big role in our lives, I am of the opinion that it is essential to focus on the unresolved problems more, with my view reinforced in this essay.
Although it is not feasible to study the statements in great detail within one essay, I would like to review both arguments from my perspective. To begin with, it is irrefutable that positive news and information influence us in a great way, which is why people tend to fear that if we focus on detrimental phenomena more, it can lead to certain ramifications and even mental health deterioration. For instance, there is enough scientific proof that nowadays people experience much higher levels of anxiety than previous decades due to the daily exposure to a plethora of media and information. As a result, some individuals claim that people worldwide should shorten their consumption of negative news, including environmental ones.
However, even though this fear can be understood, I do not think that avoidance is the best way to maintain your mental state, since in this case the problem not only does not improve, but also exacerbates and puts our existence at risk. From my perspective, it is pivotal to be aware of environmental problems, but not in a characteristic way associated with panic, but in an educational one. First and foremost, these kinds of reports should be aimed at emboldening people to unite and ameliorate the crisis together. To achieve this, the current content makers should reconsider their methods of conveying information to prevent mental turmoil in society.
After taking into consideration all the points made above, while the general public’s concerns about the ramifications of negative media can be partly warranted, I do not maintain that we should avoid dealing with pressing problems such environmental pollution. To conclude, only though a holistic and collective approach can we make out future better.
