Whether supplementing university didactic opportunities for a large of number young individuals is feasible and beneficial for a nation is a topic of controversy. From my personal perspective, it is not appropriate for a holistic development of a country if there is an increasing number of student intake.
The first reason why I advocate the limited accessibility to tertiary is that it is impractical for a country to satisfy most people’s didactic needs and maintain a high educational system in the long term. In fact, erecting a university is extremely intricate, which includes ample factors such as the cost of building and running. The government will have to pour excessive money into setting up new campuses or hiring cleaning staff instead of allocating for more valuable things such as building hospitals and schools in rural areas. In addition, excessively teenagers gain admittance which leads to the entry criteria should be lowered. For instance, low university standards make it easy for youngsters to achieve, thus the quality of university education would suffer from detrimental influences.
Another reason supporting this view is that the national economy would suffer if a large number of school leavers got access to universities. It is undeniable that social needs not only university graduates like teachers, doctors, or lawyers but also are in demand of manual workers. Moreover, if more young individuals gained admittance into higher education, there would be a severe shortage of blue-collar or skilled workers. On top of that, the rate of dropping out dramatically increases, creating mass graduate unemployment affecting directly the university’s reputation, and being a burden for the society as a whole.
To recapitulate, I am of strong belief that university education should be restricted to only straight-A students since a country can gain ample advantages from this on different fields like economy or quality of education. Therefore, the government should consider deliberately providing tertiary opportunities for lots of young people.
