Band 5+: It is not necessary for people to travel to other places to learn about other cultures. They can learn as much about other cultures from books, films, and the Internet as from traveling. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, some people believe that it is not necessary for people to travel to other places for learning about other cultures, because they can learn those knowledge from books, films, and the Internet as much as from traveling. In my case, I do not agree with this opinion.

With the rapidly development of global internet, people can get information from all over the world which can board their vision about foreign cultures, such as books, films and other things like them. Trough these foreign art produces, people can learn knowledge of different cultures, and recognize various of unique customs from other countries without traveling to those countries. Which is not only easily and flexible, but also save a huge number of traveling costs.

However, traveling to the place where people wants to learn about its culture still has its own advantages. One of those advantages is the depth of studying. On one hand, books or films can never record all knowledge about one culture, and there will always has shortages about it. On the other, the knowledge people learn from their lives can be more impressive than those people from books or films. If someone wants to totally know about one culture, the only way for them is to travel to the place and get together with local residents, learning their wises and cultures from their daily lives.

Besides, the knowledge in books or films may have mistakes. For the aim of attracting readers, various of writers write wrong or even fake messages about other cultures, and misunderstandings come into being after people read those books. If people want to learn other cultures by books or films, it will nearly impossible for them to identify whether the knowledge they learn from book is true or not. The only way for them to study right knowledge is to travel to the country, and recognize those knowledge with local residents, just like what the old words say:”What comes from paper is only shallow, and we must put it into practice “.

In conclusion, although some people believe that people can learn about different cultures by films, books and internet without traveling to other places to learn about them. I still recognize that travel to the place where people want to learn about its culture is significant for them.
