Many people believe that violence in the media can entail the increase in juvenile crime. However, I am convinced that this is not the main cause of youth crime. The following essay analyses different sides of this problem.
First and foremost, the entire issue is based on active surfing on social media, which has far-reaching consequences on teenager’s mental health. In my sophisticated opinion, the global internet has a negative impact on the fragile psyche of children. Young men tend to copy behavior that can be seen on short videos. A case in a point would be shooting incidents at schools all over the world. In some of that it has been proved that the crucial acts were caused by computer games. To reduce the number of juvenile crimes we should introduce media literacy school courses, which could help parents to keep their children from violence on the internet by themselves. Only when we will limit using online platforms, the percent of violence between teenagers shrink.
Besides, I see the issue in the social differences between families. A child will commit a crime just to get food or money, if he lives in constant poverty. It does not have any connection with social media. For instance, the highest level of access to the internet was captured in Finland and Norway. What is most interesting is that they have the lowest juvenile crime rate. So if social media were the main reason of growing youth crime, there would be the opposite circumstance in these countries. What I find crucial in upbringing is the ability to grow up a child in comfortable condition with deep love and respect.
To summarize, the increase in juvenile crime does not depend only on broadcasting violence on social media. There could be deep social problems, which has a pillar on education.
