It is believed that countries should provide their citizens with essential staples and import significantly fewer. Although acknowledging the logic behind this suggestion, I still firmly disagree with it for many reasons.
Regarding the first reason is that many nations may not have diverse type of food which leads to the fact that their residents will merely have a few options. According to the report, some countries that do not border the ocean can only produce small amount of seafood or even unable to do, therefore, the governments have to pay for these food from another areas. Luxembourg, by way of illustration, which located among other European nations has an inability to provide their citizens with seafood, and thereby it is necessary to import such as shrimp, fish, crab.
Another point worth mentioning is that the harsh environment can also causes detrimental impacts in certain extents. Several regions in the world are suffering from severe weather conditions which exert negative effect on agriculture as well as the limited number of areas whose resources are necessary for effectively cultivate, and thereby may not provide much food for the citizens. For instance, the African nations, where perpetually have to cope with the very hot weather even leads to drought in many fields. As a result, the food is not produced enough to feed the community so import inclines to be momentous.
To summarize, it is understandable that nations should provide all the food for their residents. I take the view that import supports those countries which are unable to produce themselves due to the circumstances.
