Band 5+: It is unacceptable that people who work in certain professions, e.g. finance, media, entertainment and sport, are paid such high salaries while others, who do more important jobs in society, are underpaid. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is true that people working in the entertainment, media, and sports are paid higher compared to people who do more important jobs, such as people working in the medical field, economists, teachers, and others. In my opinion, both people working in entertainment, media or other fields should receive an equal salary.

Firstly, media and sports are a strength to the country as they represent the country globally. It is true that world-renowned sportsmen are paid millions of dollars per appearance. For example, sportsmen can’t always compete, which means they can’t win money. They can also get injured during competitions. It’s good that they get paid more than others because they put their health at risk. Even actors can’t always make money. Because they wait and train for years to get a major role.

On the other hand, the government should give more attention to the community working in other fields, such as surgeons, economists, and teachers. Surgeons spend about seven years to become one. However, their salary is comparatively low. Doctors and nurses work extra long hours, but their salary is comparatively less. Similarly, teachers are paid less compared to the work they do. Teachers have to work a minimum of six hours at school, and they also spend extra time checking students’ homework. However, they receive less payment, and in order for them to earn more, they have to do extra classes.

In conclusion, it is true that people in the entertainment, sports, and other fields are paid more than surgeons or teachers. I believe that all the people who perform an important job in society should be paid equally.

It is unacceptable that people who work in certain professions, e.g. finance, media, entertainment and sport, are paid such high salaries while others, who do more important jobs in society, are underpaid. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is argued by some that some communities are getting a considerable amount of money, such as sportspeople and models, compared to other people who are so significant in society. That is to say, people who work in specific careers achieve best salaries against to other essential jobs like firefighters. I tend to strongly agree […]

Some people think that having a set retirement age (e.g. 65 years) for everybody, regardless of occupation, is unfair. They believe that certain workers deserve to retire and receive a pension at an earlier age. Do you agree or disagree? Which types of workers do you think should benefit from early retirement? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

The question of one-size-fits-all approach in a retirement age has become a topic of ongoing debate. While some argue that having fixed age of retirement for everyone is fair, I firmly agree that certain workers should be entitled to early retire. Moreover, workers with physically demanding occupation and high-stress environment should have an early retirement. […]

In many urban areas, planners tend to arrange shops, schools, offices, and homes in specific areas and separate them from one another. Do the benefits of this trend outweigh its drawbacks?

In numerous urban areas, city planners often adopt zoning policies that separate shops, schools, offices and homes into distinct districts rather than integrating them into a single mixed-use area. Even though this policy may seem to create unnecessary distance between different aspects of daily life, its advantages must be considered more relevant. As opposed to […]

A "cashless society" is one where people use debit/credit cards and other forms of payment instead of cash. Do the advantages of a cashless society outweigh the disadvantages?

Many countries are increasingly adopting cashless payment systems, with electronic transactions gradually replacing physical currency. Although this development may create some drawbacks, I believe that the advantages of cashless payment outweigh the disadvantages because they are more convenience, secure and efficient. One major advantage of cashless payments is convenience. People can make purchases using smartphones, […]
