It is widely believed that consumerism is vital for the economic well-being of a country. However, others feel that consumerism has unacceptable social consequences on a society. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

The purchasing of goods and services aids the nation’s economic development and for this reason, many are for it while others however argue that it has a negative effect on how the society operates. This essay will discuss both side of the argument.

On one hand, it’s clear that consumerism can have some bad effects on the country. Buying too much, especially when people don’t really need it and do it in large amounts, can hurt the environment. This often happens during impulsive shopping. When people buy a lot, they also throw away a lot. So, instead of making quick, thoughtless purchases, people should think about how their actions affect the environment. For instance, brands like Zara, Shein and H&M manufacture fast fashion which means produce cheap, trendy cloth in the fastest way possible, and after few wears’ shoppers discord them if this behavior continue to happen it will cause climate change and other problems.

On the other hand, consumerism has many good effects that help countries. When people buy more things, the country’s economy usually grows quickly. This helps not just big companies, but also small businesses to do well. This trend can lead to new inventions, which help the country develop faster and grow economically. For instance, as the economy grows, it creates more job opportunities.

In my conclusion, consumerism has both benefits and drawbacks for society. I believe that consumers should manage their consumption wisely and buy goods that is necessary in everyday usage.
