Band 7+: It’s better to buy just a few expensive clothes rather than lots of cheaper clothes. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In the contemporary era, people are eager to purchase fewer, highly priced garments instead of a larger quantity of economical ones. From my perspective, inexpensive merchandise is a significantly better choice due to the fact that a limited budget can provide a wider variety of clothing, and buyers do not need to concern themselves with emotional attachment.

First and foremost, there is no denying that clients prefer low-cost clothing because it allows for simple, versatile wardrobe management. Admittedly, the value of one pricey garment can be equivalent to multiple affordable ones, and both high-end and budget brands often use similar materials. The main reason some products are priced higher is due to the longevity of the brand in the market, which has allowed them to build a strong reputation and brand royalty. Additionally, companies invest heavily in advertising, which influences people’s perspectives and draws their attention. For example, celebrity endorsements in commercials often impact young people who aspire to emulate their idols.

Conversely, wearing an item for an extended period can lead to emotional attachment, making it harder to transition to new fashion trends. Moreover, sentimental individuals may experience emotional distress after spending too much time with a beloved piece of clothing. However, when people regularly update their wardrobe, these attachments are less likely to form. For instance, I never felt regret about disposing of my H&M T-shirts after wearing them for a long time.

In conclusion, individuals believe that the more they invest in their clothes, the more they are valuable to wear, even though they might not be able to buy them in bulk. From my point of view, selecting low-priced items is a wiser decision since it allows for diverse clothes on a restricted budget, and buyers do not need to concern themselves with psychological distress from becoming too attached to specific items.
