It is argued that major firms employ sports events to advertise their products, which can have some negative effects on the spirit of the sports. From my perspective, I partly agree with this point of view.
On the one hand, when big corporations participate in promoting their goods throughout sport competitions, this will obvious offer significant financial support for the development of this field. For example, If money had only contributed by Qatar’s government or organizer without participations of multinational companies such as Adidas, Coca-cola or Nike in providing monetary supports, this universal event could not happened because of lacking operating expense and fees. As a result, this campaign not only helped to share financial pressure for organizer, but also advertised their products with customer around the world. Secondly, product promotions of companies, which are also considered as profitable investments from corporation can improve living conditions of athletes, thus offering higher quality accommodations, foods and training programs, as a result motivating their overall performance.
On the other hand, the participation of large enterprises in sports for their commercial purposes could have some major drawbacks. Specifically, they could offer to advertise unhealthy products, which could be harmful to individuals’ health. For instance, junk food, sugary drinks or alcohol often appear in the banners of stadiums, or or videos from marketing campaigns of the sport competition, in consequence encourage more and more people consume unhealthy foods, while sports are meant to promote fitness.
To sum up, while I believe promoting products through sports events can be advantageous, the organizers and the sportsmen should be aware of the impact of the products they advertise.
