It is widely acknowledged that giant corporations boost their products at sports events, leading to negative influences on sports. I am opposed to this view as corporate investment plays a vital role in supporting sports development by providing financial resources and motivating athletes.
To begin with, corporations use sports events as an effective marketing channel by displaying their brands on LED screens in stadiums or on players’ uniforms. This form of promotion not only increases brand visibility but also benefits sports organisations financially. In addition, in some competitive matches, some corporations give a large bonus to players who score a goal, motivating athletes to play better. For example, in the football match between Vietnam and Uzbekistan in China in 2018, Agribank, which is the biggest banking corporation in Vietnam, awarded a significant cash prize of approximately $50,000 to Nguyen Quang Hai, who scored the first goal. After this match, some consumers believed in using Agribank to save their money because they observed the immediate support for their admired players. Although some marketing campaigns can be over-commercialization, funding can be more beneficial for sports events. Therefore, by putting their budget into these sports events, both companies and sports events have benefits.
By receiving funds from these companies, sports events can host matches smoothly and successfully. Hosting tournaments requires a considerable budget for facilities, equipment, and logistics. Without sponsorship, many sports events would struggle to operate or might even be cancelled. Therefore, corporate funding ensures the sustainable development of sports competitions and allows athletes to focus entirely on their performance rather than financial concerns.
In conclusion, while some believe that corporate promotion may negatively influence sports, I firmly believe that sponsorship from large companies brings more benefits than drawbacks. It provides essential financial support, motivates athletes, and contributes to the long-term development of sports.
