It is clear that based on research conducted by scientists and analysts, many countries and regions around the world are now experiencing a consistent rise in life expectancy. From my perspective, this shift has evoked notable advantages that outweigh its disadvantages, with each playing a pivotal role.
One of the ascertained drawbacks to longevity is the demographic imbalance. In other words, it means that there would be a larger proportion of senior citizens compared to the younger generations, a phenomenon known as aging population, which consequently places a financial strain on governments due to rising healthcare expenses and pension costs. Additionally, rising populations supposedly exacerbate environmental challenges specifically increased carbon footprint. Furthermore, a population with mostly elderly people would weaken the country’s workforce, which is important in governing its administration.
On the other hand, an increase in lifespan results in some noteworthy benefits alongside its disadvantages. A primary change would be the fact that individuals may have more time to explore and experience. Thus, they will participate more actively in areas including education, jobs, and voluntary activities. It is obvious that, to this end, there will be outstanding progress in the state, economically and politically. Also, the more medical advancements, the less children’s mortality rate. Hence, by having more population to some extent, there may be younger and more passionate workers, in excess of the past, to lead the country and its authority.
Another significant profound effect that individuals mostly forget, is that older adults can pass down valuable and integral skills and wisdom. This approach fosters cultural continuity and enhances next generations’ lifestyle. This is a compelling reason for the human evolution till now.
To conclude, while I believe there are some disadvantages as life expectancy is on the rise, its advantages have been playing a crucial role in evolving the world we are living in today successfully. This growing population has been essential in the progress of modern society, that has been achieved rapidly.
