Owing to the air pollution problem, some individuals argue that we should prioritize limiting non-essential long-haul flights, rather then avoid car usage. I believe this contention possesses merit and should be pursued by supervisory authorities.
Critics can argue that air flights can transfer hundreds of individuals, while cars usually can contain only from one to four people at once. Furthermore, urban sprawls encourage people to use car on a daily basis when commuting from home to work and vice versa. Also, due to traffic congestion, cars need to idle for hours, causing carbon dioxide releases and air pollution every day. Regarding the recent research, carbon dioxide emissions, that can be increased because of a car dependancy, cause lethal human diseases (for instance, cancer).
However, it is unfair to blame only cars in the air pollution and human diseases problems. Air planes consume enormous amoun of fuel even for a long-distance trip, while the average car can consume the same amound during a couple of years. For example, a single flight from Paris to Sydney releases extraordinary amount of carbon dioxide, polluting air. Moreover, plains release emission in upper layers of the atmosphere where they linger longer, affecting the climate and causing the climate change.
In conclusion, I believe that it is necessary to decrease the number of non-essential flights and contribute more to sustainability. We should develop other eco-friendly ways for tourists to travel. This can be made by advertising local tourism and contributing more to the use trains and electric cars.
