In the contemporary world, there have been numerous arguments surrounding travelling by airplanes due to the fact that this transportation method consumes a significant amount of fuel. While many people are of the opinion that we should discontinue non-vital flights such as tourism to control pollution, I personally believe that this solution will not be effective whatsoever.
To begin with the first reason, while airplanes can indeed pollute the air, not utilizing them results in a significant hit to people’s quality of life. Ever since its inception, aviation has managed to make travelling seamless and convenient, especially compared to cars. If we discourage the usage of this type of transportation for the sake of the environment, the tourism industry will fade into obscurity, and travelling will regress by almost five decades, jeopardizing the comfort that has been enjoyed by humanity. As a result of this, a simple trip to another country via private transportation might take months instead of hours.
Another reason for disagreement is the fact that airplanes can be optimized to use less energy as technology progresses. Nowadays, despite consuming large amounts of fuel, aerospace engineers and airplane manufacturers such as Boeing and Airbus are trying their best to limit the amount of fuel consumed by their aircraft, making them more environmentally friendly compared to cars. If we ban non-essential trips by airplanes, we are indirectly damaging the research and development process of these companies by reducing their sales. Thus, this technology will only be usable in niche areas, and our efforts to make transportation more convenient will be halted.
To conclude, although it is crucial to safeguard the environment by limiting the utilization of different kinds of fuel, banning aircraft flight instead of cars is not the best solution to this contemporary issue. Humanity should aspire to innovate in new areas of aviation in order to make them more efficient and to enjoy better living standards.
