Band 7+: Long distance flight consumes the amount of the fuel that a car uses for many year and pollutes the air.Some people think that we should discourage non-essential flights,such as tourist travel,rather than limit the uses of the cars. Do you agree or disagree?

Climate change has already become a major problem for humankind. It has been proved that airplane flights use an enormous amount of fuel and contribute to climate change much more than the use of cars does. Some people believe that it is better to limit flights by giving up tourist travel instead of reducing car utilization. I disagree with this statement, and in this essay, I will explain the reasons for my opinion.

First of all, the world has significantly changed since the introduction of mass use of planes. Therefore, it will not be that easy to give up airplane flights and transportation due to the globalization of this means of transport. Nevertheless, a relatively small number of people use airplane flights for tourist travel more than once or twice a year. Thus, limiting these kinds of flights will not be as effective as giving up business flights, which occur more often. For example, business travels can be limited by conducting online meetings instead, as was done during the COVID-19 pandemic. Placing a limit on tourist flights will be met negatively by the public and will not be effective in fighting air pollution.

Second of all, limiting car use will be easier than giving up tourist flights. Nowadays, this is possible because there are a lot of alternatives to fuel-powered cars that can be introduced to public use. For example, people can be encouraged to use public transport to commute to work, or companies can organize corporate transport for employees to use to get to work and get back home after their shift. Moreover, major car companies are introducing electric cars that have the same cost as fuel cars. These alternatives can help to decline the amount of greenhouse gases produced and are a sensible solution to the air pollution problem.

In conclusion, despite the fact that plane flights contribute a lot to air pollution, it will be problematic to limit plane use among the public due to its convenience. Therefore, limiting car utilization can be more effective, as some alternatives are available for widespread use.
