Traditional classrooms have always remained a centre for education, friendships and inspirations. While, new pedagogical techniques are proliferating in the educational sector, they cannot completely sweep the traditional classroom by the year 2050.
The first reason for this is the value a teacher brings to class rather than any other online or AI-based teacher. The presence, interaction and experience of a teacher not only guides the student to the right path, but also inspires him to become a great individual. This is only possible in a traditional classroom as it makes the connections closer and meaningful rather than an interrupted conversation online. For example, the famous philosopher Aristotle was inspired by his teacher Socrates and later on continued the work of Socrates to find the true meaning of justice.
Moreover, in a traditional classroom setup, students not only learn formulas and theories, but also build strong friendships. This would not be the case if students are engaged in any other teaching setup such as google classroom, AI-based teaching bots and other distant learning platforms. UNESCO’s study in African states show that teachers assert that traditional classrooms cannot be coded due to the meaningful relations it builds among the peers. Hence, traditional classrooms will remain imperative in any century.
On the contrary, alternative methods can remain a pivotal role in transforming the traditional classrooms. In my opinion, rather than substituting the entire traditional classroom, new methods will complement them. They will allow teachers to focus more on students rather than being occupied with cumbersome administrative tasks such as timetable designing. For example, Artificial intelligence can be leveraged by teachers to do cumbersome tasks like timetable designing and paper checking. Hence, alternative methods will not replace, but complement the traditional classrooms.
Conclusively, traditional classrooms cannot be replaced by the alternative teaching methods by the year 2050. This is because traditional classrooms bring students closer to the teacher and their fellow partners which aids them in finding the right guidance and friendships.
