In the present days a large number of young people recieve more impact from their companions rather than from family. This is primarily due to the desire for acceptance from their friends. However, from my point of view it is a negative development, because it can lead to a weakened family bond.
The primary reason of minors having stronger effect from their peers is their strong need to be socially recognised. This urge to fit in often leads them to adopt the behaviour, attitudes and language of their friends, as they believe this will help them gain acceptance and avoid being isolated. For example, in South Korea many school students may start wear certain brands or following popular social media trends just because their friends to do so, even if they are not interested in those things before.
This development must seen as negative, because it can create distance among family members. When children prioritize their peers opinion over those of their parents or siblings, the emotional connection within the family may weaken. As a result, family members may communicate less and spend less quality time together, which is essential for building trust and support. Moreover, their mates may not always give them right guidance which leads to them making poor decisions. For instance, a teenager may be pressured by peers to skip school or engage in risky behavior, while their family would discourage such actions.
In conclusion, younger individuals tend to be more significantly influenced by their contemporaries than by their family members because of the peer pressure, and I believe that this is a negative change, as it leads to the deterioration of familial relationships.
