There are controversial perspectives over the influences of sponsorships to world of sports. While some believe that sponsorship, as a method of advertisement, can have negative consequences, the others make a statement that it is positive. From my perspective, receiving money from companies can be risky for sports, however, it is up to the sporting team to ensure them sponsor to be adequately ethical and moral as well as appropriate commodities.
Without a shadow of a doubt, it is apparent to said that without sponsorships, many sports events and shows couldn’t have operated. To be more specific, large and well-known events such as the world cup or the Olympics, require millions of dollars which is needed for such exorbitant facilities and pieces of top-notch equipment. If there were no sponsors, the price of a spectator would be extremely high due to it is the only revenue recover the cost to organize, as a result, many people couldn’t afford to attend, which may leave the organizers facing bankruptcy.
While the redeeming feature of sponsors to world of sports is widely acknowledged, it is an undeniable fact that its counterpart still lingers when large sport events use sponsorship from an enterprise that manufactures products which have negative impacts on people and society such as alcohol or tobacco. For instance, young people can easily develop a positive association with those products and starts to make use of it. Imagine how serious it is if teenagers could be influenced through watching the world cup football competition with detrimental commodities.
In conclusion, I would contend that sponsorship in sports have both pros and cons, nevertheless it is important for sporting team to ensure there will be no negative impacts on people and society.
