There is no denying that many countries today aim to boost their economies. While it is a commonly held belief that economic growth can enhance the standard of living, there is also an opposing argument. Overemphasis on economic development, while disregarding essential social values, can lead to numerous problems. This essay will discuss both points of view and express my opinion.
On one hand, there are clear advantages to developing the economy. First and foremost, a country may gain significant recognition and become one of the most important tourist destinations, thanks to its modern buildings and infrastructure. Consequently, affluent nations tend to focus on economic development. For example, according to recent statistics, Dubai has become the most visited city in the world due to its remarkable development and strong economy. Additionally, job opportunities will increase, as it is widely known that economic development requires a substantial workforce. Thus, unemployment rates will decrease in countries that are actively promoting their development.
On the other hand, it is important to consider that some workers will be deprived of many things, such as spending time with friends and family, as well as precious leisure time due to heavy workloads. Furthermore, their health may deteriorate, as they may not have sufficient time to exercise or go to fitness clubs.
Taking everything into consideration, there is no straightforward answer to this question. However, I tend to believe that governments should strive to balance economic development with the preservation of vital social values.
