A large portion of society believes that economic development leads to a loss of social values, as it often alters people’s living standards through economic changes. In my opinion, the advantages of economic development, such as improved living standards and new opportunities, outweigh the disadvantages.
The main benefit of economic development is the improvement of people’s quality of life. Specifically, economic growth can help support disadvantaged families. For example, many African countries, compared to others, are still struggling economically. People in these countries often face high unemployment and lack basic necessities, such as food and healthcare. Economic development can provide new opportunities, reduce poverty, and improve living conditions. Additionally, it can strengthen relationships between countries. For example, trade agreements and the exchange of goods and services can foster diplomatic ties and cooperation between nations. In this way, economic development plays a significant role in shaping a prosperous society.
However, there are also some drawbacks. One obvious disadvantage is the negative impact on health. For instance, with the growth of car production in countries like South Korea, air pollution and related health issues have become more widespread. Workers in factories may suffer from respiratory problems due to exposure to smoke, and the increase in cars on the roads contributes to environmental damage. Furthermore, the demanding nature of modern work schedules often leaves individuals with little time for rest or leisure. This lack of free time can lead to stress and mental health problems. Therefore, while economic growth can improve living standards, it can also negatively affect the well-being of individuals.
To conclude, although economic development can have a negative impact on the environment and public health, its benefits, such as improved living conditions and international relations, far outweigh these disadvantages. Economic growth provides individuals with greater opportunities and contributes to a more interconnected world.
