Band 4+: Many first-year university students discover that their chosen subjects do not suit them. Why does this happen? What can be done to ensure that students can choose a suitable subject?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Yes, many first year university students in university feel like, their major is not suitable and it does not conflate with their intrests. The main factor behind this is , when students entre in university they don’t have basic counselling and mostly parents try to dominate their wish upon their childrens without understanding what they want to do or what are their dreams in life. But yes after joining universities there are many options that could be switched with present major, so it will help students to achieve destiny and select majors and subjects that align with them.

To begin with when I was in university , many fellows and classmates were not strong in academic records and as a part of student counsellor society I always tried to approach them and find the main cause behind. In most of the cases when I approached students , the primary cause was the enforcement and dominating wishes of their parents. One more reason that we noticed on a whole basis was a very slight or weak counselling before selecting majors for university. In addition to that few students, after entering into main concepts of their major, realize that this field is not suitable and does not allign with their career goals.

Solutions are present to tackle this unwanted situation and delimma state of students. First and prior criteria for selecting future career should be intrest of student and what he/she want to do in life. If in the case student is not understanding and can not realize what he want to do , we should look for activites and processes, like professional consultants, that would help us to understand his or her intrests on true basis. But in case if student got admission and enterend into any subject that is not healty for his/her intrest. Then obviously switching options are always there. And this switching process could result in getting unimaginable improvements, not only in studies but also in the personality and daily life of that person.

To sum up, parents should try to take steps that are beneficial for students by considering their destinies and achiveable goals that they have dreamed of. Also faculty, administration and most importantly teachers of such students, who are not performing good in thier academics, should try to figure out the main intrest of victim and help him/her not to expose to this miserable and avoidable condition.
