Many types of food that are transported remotely are becoming more and more increasingly popular these days. There are some opinions that eating local dishes is more environmentally friendly and brings economic benefits. In my opinion, the downsides pale in comparison to the advantages.
Granted, consuming local food has a few disadvantages. First of all, local food may be restricted, which can reduce the variety of foods that people consume throughout the year. For example, according to a survey, a part of Vietnamese people like to eat king crab while it is not raised in Vietnam, so businesses often import them from abroad to serve customer needs. Besides, there is another disadvantage to this problem, which is that the attraction for food transported remotely and from abroad is often greater for people than for their local cuisines. Since sushi was introduced to Vietnam, people have eaten more and more and have forgot about their local dishes.
However, in my opinion, these drawbacks pale in comparison to the benefits. Firstly, local products may usually be fresher. This is because the shipping process will take less time. For instance, buying grapes locally can be fresher than waiting to be shipped from far away, some of which may be spoiled in transportation. On the other hand, this can help the local economy grow more and more. This local economy may be better improved due to people’s consumption of local food, which can support farmers and businesses with capital to grow better.
In conclusion, the problem of consuming local food has a few drawbacks, such as food being often limited and people being attracted to food transported from far away; however, the benefits it brings are still more obvious, such as fresher products and an improved economy, creating jobs for people.
