Band 6+: Many governments think that economic progress is their main important goal. Some people, however, some people think that other type of goals are equally important. Discus both these views and give your opinion.

According to many, all types of sectors like medical science, technology, and security are equally important, however, others argue that it is preferable to only give importance to economic growth because it can increase the gross domestic product of a country. I strongly believe that focusing on all types of progression can be helpful for a country’s development.

Primarily, I hold the view that other types of progress, like technology, security, and medical science, are equally important for a country because they can contribute to the development of a country. The reason for this is that, when a country progresses equally in many sectors, it can help them to reach their goal and fulfill their need, which can be useful for a country in their development process. Moreover, progressing in many sectors can improve the security system of a country, help to find new useful medicines to prevent dangerous diseases, and help them to invent new technologies—all of which are more likely to help in a country’s development. A notable example is India, where the government brought in new gadgets and increased the tax in 2010, reportedly resulting in a rise in the percentage of the annual development progress in the subsequent year. Therefore, from my perspective, the government should give equal importance to every sector for the growth of a country.

On the other hand, proponents of this idea argue that economic growth is their most important goal because it can increase the GDP of a country. According to them, when the government focuses only on economic growth, it can increase the annual profit and decrease the price of products, ultimately raising the GDP. For example, according to one survey, the government of Bangladesh only focused on economic growth in 2015 which increased its currency value and GDP in the subsequent year. However, many researches showed that only focusing on economic growth cannot help a country to reach its goal in today’s world. Therefore, in my view, all sectors are equally important for a country to become developed.

In conclusion, while there is an argument that favoring economic growth might increase GDP, I maintain that giving equal importance to other types of progress can develop a country.
