Food and drink which are produced in factories contain high levels of sugar, which leads to many health issues. The prices of these products should be more expensive to encourage people to eat less sugar. I disagree with this statement, because some people can afford only manufactured products and price is not considered to be a deciding factor.
To begin with, reducing health problems by making sugary products more expensive is impossible. This means that price does not play a contributing role when people buy commodities which contain a great amount of sugar. Manufactured food and drink have a good taste, and this is the main reason why customers buy it. So, even if the price is costly, they will purchase it. In other words, increasing prices is not a solution for some health issues caused by consuming excessive amounts of sugar. For this reason, the government should find alternative methods to force people to eat less sugar.
Moreover, manufactured food and drinks are the only ones that some people can afford. The cost of these type of food is much cheaper compared to healthy products, for which most local people do not have access. For this reason, if prices increase, people will have no choice of products to buy. A good example of this is Tyson Foods, which tried to improve the quality of food and raise the prices, which were above the middle standard. As a result, a rebellion of local people arose, and they were forced to make a drop in costs.
To conclude, although many manufactured food and drink contain high levels of sugar and cause some health problems, making sugary products more expensive is not a way to encourage people to consume less sugar.
