Many parents push their children to pursue a part time job in their free time. In this essay, I will explain why the benefits of doing a part time job overshadow the potential drawbacks.
On the one hand, getting involved in part time employment could pose two challenges to children. Firstly, it may distract them from their academic responsibilities, as they may usually get overwhelmed with managing both work and studies. To illustrate, because of a heavy workload, it is probable that they will end up not having enough time to study or even ignoring their school work. As a result, they may face difficulty keeping up with their study, which could potentially affect their grades. Secondly, children might have a lack of time even if they can maintain the right balance between their work and their academic performance, considering that the children normally spend 7-8 hours at school. because of this, they will probably have limited freedom to relax, pursue hobbies, and spend time with friends and family. such poor work-life balance could lead to stress and burnout.
On the other hand, I would argue that having a part time job offers more benefits to children. Firstly, it enables the children to gain more professional experience, which can be useful for them at a later stage in life. For example, by being exposed to a real work environment, they can get the chance to learn a number of skills such as time management, teamwork and problem solving. As a result, they can stand out from other job applicants since most companies nowadays are looking for candidates with more work experience. Furthermore, having a part time job means that children can earn a salary. As they learn to make money, they can not only help reduce their parents’ financial burden, but they can also learn about financial management, which will be impactful for their future.
In conclusion, while having a part-time job might cause children to get distracted from their academic responsibilities and have a lack of time, it enables them to gain work experience and earn a salary.
