The debate regarding whether the significant way to improve road safety is to increase the minimum legal age for driving cars or motorbikes or whether there are alternative measurement options to increase road safety. Some argue that increasing the minimum legal age for drivers is essential for driving safety as most young drivers are reckless, and less responsible on the road, leading to a higher chance of accidents. Others argue that there are other measures such as strict driver’s license tests, enforcement along the road, or improved road infrastructures, that could be more efficient in ensuring road safety.
On one hand, Increasing the minimum age for a driver’s license might decrease accidents that happen along the road. Evidence from many countries shows that most young drivers often drive recklessly, and ignore speed limits or rules and regulations on the road which leads to a higher chance of accidents.
However, Young drivers aren’t the only reason for all of the road accidents. According to data, several reasons lead to unsafe roads such as drunk driving, carelessness, driving past speed limits, and dozing off. To improve safety on the road, increasing driving license requirements and advanced driving tests, regarding age, with better skills and knowledge to handle unpredictable situations. Stricter laws and regulations such as increasing fines, and banning driver’s licenses for irresistible drivers, could reduce unexpected accidents on the road.
In my opinion, while increasing the minimum age driving provides benefits, it isn’t the solution to improve road safety. Improving driving education, and strict enforcement of laws and regulations are more effective in enhancing road safety overall. Combining these measures can address various factors contributing to road accidents and create a safer driving environment for everyone.
