Initially, there are two main factors that contribute to reducing young people’s interest towards literation and numeracy. First, the quality standard of education. The curricula that are provided by the government, emphasize the teacher as the sole knowledge resource instead of building a good habit in literature. In fact, these curricula also do not present interesting learning models of numeracy. These circumstances encourage students to learn only from one source, while having curiosity to find other learning resources. To overcome this situation, the government has to build a long-term curriculum which encourages students to learn from many resources such as newspapers, group study, and the internet.
In addition, parenting is also a primary reason that allows students to have a lack of savor in literation. Busy modern lifestyles leave many parents with limited time to engage in their children’s education. In addition parents also avoid having interest in literation and concern to their children’s education. The solution is that parents should set an example by developing a daily reading habit and working together with their children on homework.
