Scientific research plays a crucial role in modern society, significantly shaping the overall well-being and health of communities. There is a belief held by certain people that governments should conduct and control scientific research, instead of in private companies’ role. From my viewpoint, I completely agree with this perspective, as the government’s responsibility in this action with society is far greater than that of private companies.
My first argument lies in the idea that the government puts resident’s health on top, hence the experiment may be conducted non-profit to support all groups of people, regardless of financial status. For example, in COVID-19 pandemic, the vaccine was free for giving an injection; as a result, everyone had a chance of curing. By contrast, private companies are typically driven by profit and tend to commercialize medical advancements, making them less accessible to the poor, which negatively impacts the community’s health. Therefore, governmental conduction of scientific research helps ensure that health innovations benefit the entire community, not just those who can afford them.
Another reason is that the government can direct the quality of science research, on the grounds that they can control the ingredients and methods used in experiments, which prevents consumers from potential harm. To illustrate, the content of heroin use in medical fields was controlled in the proper limit, which guarantees the safety standards. On the contrary, private companies may compromise quality and safety in the pursuit of profit, potentially putting consumers at risk by using incorrect amounts or adding unsafe substances. Hence, scientific research should be controlled by the government to ensure the superiority of products, which directly impact on consumer’s health.
In conclusion, as the government prioritize public health and ensures the quality of scientific research, it is necessary for them to lead and regulate experiments rather than leaving it to private companies driven by profit.
