Governments around the world must spend their public fund prudently, as they acquire the money from their citizens. Some people argue that governments should expense their money on creative sectors, such as music, painting, and theatre, while others think that it is more appropriate to spend it on critical sectors, such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure. From my perspective, governments should allocate more budget to essential sectors as it brings more benefits to their citizens.
Funding creative industry can be beneficial as people can gain more money without having to do repetitive work. In other words, people can get paid for their entire life through royalties of music and arts that they create once. With such methods, people can have more free time to do what they want in life. However, there is a low chance of success in this industry because each person taste of art is different, and there is no fix determiner to achieve the popularity.
On the other hand, allocating budget to essential sectors mentioned above can boost economy more effectively as they have fix indicators. For example, when the president of Indonesia built a toll road that connects two provinces, the cost of transportation is reduced greatly. It even decreases the price of consumer products. However, investing in this sector requires more budget than the creative sectors. Thus, the government may demand more money from taxpayers.
In conclusion, there are pros and cons whether investing in real sectors or creative sectors. After all, it is more beneficial in funding the real industry as it is more certain than the creative industry.
