Today’s society, provides an incredible amount of opportunities for young people. However, sometimes, it could be overwhelming creating confusion, uncertainties and fear of wasting time on the wrong path, leading people away from their true passions.
In the internet era, people who start approaching to their work life will be fed with an astonishing number of different opinions, options, fields and schools. On one hand, this is certainly positive, but on the other hand, this can also be overwhelming on people who are new to this world. Confusion and uncertainties often leads people towards a more secure and stable career rather than their real passions. This explains why someone chose a specific work path even though they don’t like it. Now let’s analyse why, sometimes, they stick with it and what are the reasons and consequences of this behaviour.
After a few years of working a secure job, for a mostly social behavioural pattern, people think that changing the path would be a mistake, and they prefer to let personal passions and, most importantly, mental health, slide in second place.
On my personal experience, I saw many people and friends stuck on an effortless and proudless job without ever try anything different to not risk losing the economic stability they have been provided with. With the years passing by, people often develop different forms of depression. Not only that, but also this mentality will be passed to the children in a cycle which becomes more and more difficult to break.
Listening to other people’s opinions may be important, especially the advices of the people we most care about. However, it is essential to not lose focus on what make us happy and proud. Our passions, goals and dreams, are the things which should drive our choices, not stability and social acceptance.
