Some argue that completing a course in further education is the sole foundation for obtaining a good occupation, while others claim that starting work directly after school is more advantageous. I tend to believe that finishing academic courses at university is the most proper way to secure a guaranteed good career in the future.
On the one hand, university education equips students with both theoretical and practical knowledge of their chosen subjects which may add value to their real-life aspects in the long term. Universities often teach students how to analyze and solve obstacles they might have to overcome in life by building and developing essential soft skills, such as communication, responsibility, confidence, and resilience. Therefore, three or even four years of attending university will assist people in finding their purposeful career by shaping and preparing their mentality. Beyond acquiring a degree related to their field of study, students tend to perform more competently and reliably than those who either failed to complete their degree or never enrolled in courses in the first place.
Nevertheless, whether a person decides to attend academic courses at university or not, it does not completely define someone’s career goals or success. As they are maturing, most people already have sufficient life experiences and valuable skills that are also contributing to their performance as employees in the workplace. Thus, direct experience in a certain work environment can be seen as an opportunity to advance their practical skills and gain firsthand work experiences for those who are interested in pursuing different from formal education.
In conclusion, the debate over the importance of earning a degree from university versus immediate work experience after high school on determining someone’s career prospects is valid from both views. However, I am personally convinced that further education not only hands out basic knowledge but also provides fundamental skills that are demanded in various work industries.
