It is widely believed that only highly-educated students should be accepted into universities, while others argue that everyone has the same opportunity to receive a university education. This essay will discuss both views before explaining why I strongly support the view that only students with the highest academic achievements should be admitted to universities.
On the one hand, many individuals believe that universities should only accept students with the highest marks because there are a limited number of places for students in several academic institutions. As a result, universities need to select the most capable applicants in order to maintain a high standard of education. Moreover, from my point of view, only academically successful applicants can understand difficult topics at educational institutions. Consequently, they are more likely to complete their studies successfully and make a valuable contribution to society in the future. For example, medical universities usually accept only applicants with excellent grades, as doctors and nurses need extensive knowledge and strong academic skills.
On the other hand, some people argue that everyone should have the same opportunity to study at university because education can improve people’s future careers and quality of life. It can also provide individuals with better employment opportunities and higher salaries. However, I believe that an approach like this may reduce academic standards and make it more challenging for lecturers to teach students with different academic abilities effectively, as not all students are prepared for challenging university courses. For instance, if universities admitted every applicant regardless of their academic performance, it could become more difficult to maintain a high quality of education.
In conclusion, although both views have their own advantages, I firmly believe that universities should admit only students with the highest academic achievements, as this helps maintain high educational standards and ensures better academic outcomes.
