It is often argued that the majority of parents are overprotective nowadays rather than in the past. However, individuals have opposite views towards this opinion. I completely agree with this opinion, because too much overprotection of children will affect their success in their future lives. This essay will articulate the rationales supporting this assertion.
First of all, kids who have overprotective parents will grow up mentally ill because they cannot independently make decisions for themselves as a result of their parents’ interference in their lives. In addition to this, it has been found that with these parents, kids are more likely to have poor coping skills and higher levels of stress, depression, and anxiety. These children grow up to become adults who are usually dissatisfied with life and have unrealistic expectations from people around them. Being very soft would lead to unnecessary attachment, which would eventually spoil them, leading to undesired consequences.
Secondly, protection will make them irresponsible for their future because they may have already relied on their parents for their goals. For example, life is complex, and if they cannot handle or sort out the problems they face in their lives, they will fail, because in real life, not all problems will be solved by the protection of our parents. Sometimes we should take steps and find a solution by ourselves.
To conclude, even though parents’ support is an important part of children’s lives and also because blood is thicker than water, overprotection can be harmful to children’s mindset and the responsibility of their future.
