Some argue that professional athletes are paid too much. I completely agree with this notion, as I firmly believe that spending such an enormous amount of money on other more essential fields would be a better choice.
One major disadvantage of high salary of professional athletes is the fall of other grounds through the cracks. It is be unwise action to overpay athletes, while there are some public economical issues that should be addressed by the government, as it is the population whom the government is elected to serve. Uzbekistan is a perfect example, where the average salary of football coaches and players is too high, in spite of the fact that there are several problems among the population, such as joblessness and homelessness, as a result of which this country is experiencing tough periods of economy.
Another main negative aspect is a widespread influence. To be more specific, the fame and high salary of sports celebrities is shading the eyes of the youngsters, attracting the majority of them to sports field. Social media makes the younger generation look at them—handsomely paid sportsmen—through rose-colored glasses, as a consequence of which they are failing to build a strong career path. In India, for example, most of the youngsters are selecting sports ground as their career path, being affected by the fame and high salaries of sports celebrities, such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland, without being aware of consistent, hard-work-demanding period of training hidden by social media.
In conclusion, I am a firm believer that professional sportsmen are overpaid, due to the fact that there are some other issues, which are crucial to deal with, and it is influencing negatively on young minds.
