There is a hot debate about whether the governments should prohibit shops providing foods and drinks which are confirmed to be bad for citizens’ health. Personally, I am in disagreement with this point of view due to some causes that will be presented in this essay.
Undeniablly, banning those shops which supply unhealthy foods and drinks to people can result in several advantages. To begin with, this action could contribute to the enhancement in public health on the grounds that citizens would change their eating habit by choosing alternative healthier source of foods used for their daily dishes and making foods at home. There is a high probability that these changes could diminish the number of resource-intensive treatments due to health issues relating to unhealthy eating habit and lead to the development in locally produced foods. This could be exemplified that deseases which relate to eating habit like diabetes or gastritis usually require life-long health cures, as a result, people who have these issues need to pay an intensive cost for treatments and medical assistance for long time period.
Nevertheless, I believe that the disadvantages are predominant. The most strinking one is the inequality in economic competition by the virtue of the fact that certain companies could come to bankrupt or the dramatic reduction in their revenue when they are unable to produce those unhealthy goods to compete. As many countries started to apply this regulation on some kinds of products, it is very likely to cause the phenomenon of buying and selling those products in the black market, as a result, this issue could be difficult to be completely controlled by the governments and trigger several consequences. The secret heroin trade in black market could be deemed as a prime example as the authorities have not totally control them recently while there are many more heroin-addicted conditions that could be found.
In conclusion, I believe that despite some undeniable drawbacks, shops which sell unhealthy products should not be banned.
