A wide range of young learners are preferable to take a year-off school prior to becoming undergraduates for visiting new nations around the world or gaining more hands-on experience. Personally, I believe that this is a beneficial initiative for several reasons that will be discussed in this essay.
Those who support the idea that taking a gap year before attending tertiary education is wasteful make some valid points. It is evident that the more travel the students have, the more experienced they are, which however means that a gap year requires a huge amount of financial aid from parents since students are too young to earn any kind of living. Consequently, it will potentially trigger an unprofitable investment that often costs an exorbitant price for parents if their offspring cannot take advantage of a year-off school when they still could not discover what they prefer to or what suits them most in order to pursue a higher academic institution eventually.
Even so, beyond the possibility of the inability to capitalize on the gap year, taking a year-off creates numerous benefits as it is not only an experience for young individuals to undergo, but it is also a journey where you endeavour to search for your true characteristics. A gap year enables learners to broaden their horizons about the outside world as they are capable of doing what they have never done before, even those that are not common in their country while they are going abroad, as well as meeting and making friends with people that are both polar-different and like-minded in comparison with them. These experiences, therefore, lay a solid foundation for finding who they are, acquiring more essential skills and taking these students to the field which is suited to them most to continue pursuing that major in university. More importantly, sometimes a person can seize an unexpectedly valuable opportunity during this period. Because a number of fields of studies just open in a limited time with a restriction on the number of applicants, students can submit for these disciplines posthaste when they first see the announcement owing to their huge available time.
In conclusion, although it could squander a lot of time and money unless the learners make use of their gap year, I suppose that a year-off school before entering tertiary education has a profound influence on students ranging from moulding their traits to expanding their understanding and opportunity for a better development in the future.
