In recent times, machines are taking over the things that humans manually do on their own. These machines will certainly help humans and reduce human errors, but there will be some drawbacks.
It is true that several manual works, namely household chores, are now done with the assistance of high-performance technology equipment because it is taking up too much time for most people. For this reason, people are trying to find a substitute, so they allocate their time doing other things instead of spending their time on ‘unnecessary’ routine. For instance, by using vacuum robots with a self-cleaning feature and are able to simultaneously vacuum the dust and mop the floor. On top of that, machines have the tendency to reduce the number of human errors, take a cooking robot for example. It can ensure that the ingredients are correct according to the recipe that it has. Although these can be seen as benefits of utilizing technology, there are several drawbacks that need to be considered.
A vast majority of people didn’t realize that the presence of technology in their daily lives will make them rely on it too much and are not used to live without it. This behavior will eventually make people lazy and feel struggled when they have to do things independently. In addition, the usage of automated machinery has the risk of employment loss. In fact, the number of human cashiers in supermarkets are now outnumbered by the self-checkout machines. Furthermore, several activities are meant to be done by humans and simply cannot be replaced by robots, which are activities that require human senses. For example, a robot will not be able to operate a flight on its own without human interference, otherwise it might have a technical issue and risk a plane crash.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that the disadvantages do outweigh the advantages. While it is definitely effective for some and has a low tendency in making trivial errors, it still lacks human touch. This will also make people rely too much on technology and in terms of a long-term impact, this could lead to loss of employment.
