In recent years, Several colleges suggest virtual courses. I firmly believe that virtual degree programs is a double-edge sword. This program might increase number of students internationally but it can reduce the number of productivity since the lecturer is not able to supervise directly which make harder for the student to focus. I think that remote study will take a place of conventional universities in the future. This is because online learning gives flexibility and affordable tuition fees for students.
One of the advantages online programs is that educational institutions can reach students all over the world. This program will increase the number of students who want to study due to distance and financial situations. For instance, an indiviual from rural city wants to study in city center, where Indonesia has a large population but is constrained by distance, This constraint will effect students to not continue enrolling. Therefore, online education must be implement as soon as possible to reach all students especially in Indonesia.
Despite the numerous benefit given from the online degree programs, this also has another impact for students. This program will impact students who is lazy will become more lazier. This is because there is no lecturer supervise or teach directly, they only listen from the audio which make less interaction with lecturer and their friends. For example, a student from city centre wants to study overseas. The students will only listen through audio and see virtually with video conferences. This will make the students less awareness of learning. Therefore, it is good to implement online degree program but it must implement both online and offline learning to prevent the students from doing bad things.
In conclusion, Although online programs offers educational institutions to reach all students globally, but it comes with another impact such as lower productivity and increase laziness. I personally agree that in the future online programs will take over conventional learning but with good regulations such as their parents must supervise their children.
