With an overall increasing number of people roaming the globe, there has also been a rise in the number of tourists who prefer spots with extreme weather conditions and severe surroundings over rather popular resorts. Some trips that used to be considered a pipe dream have become more touristic. Yet there are both upsides and downsides of setting off on remote destinations with rugged conditions.
First and foremost, one of the key advantages is a possibility to see with your own eyes uninhabited lands with breathtaking sceneries. Precisely in remote places on the planet, there is a chance to enjoy the wonders of nature. As a vivid example, tourists who brave the harsh conditions and reach the Arctic succeed in spotting the Northern Lights. On top of that, some explorers argue visiting off-the-beaten-track destinations allows one to gather unforgettable emotions of overcoming oneself after a series of obstacles.
Despite some obvious merits, some demerits can be also highlighted. While reaching a remote spot is amazing, it is quite dangerous. If severe weather conditions arise suddenly, it will be difficult to call for help due to poor connection in remote areas. All rescue services are often located quite far from rugged spots, and in case of an accident it will take a rescuer a lot of time to reach a destination. For instance, hundreds of dead climbers lie on Everest, many of whom died due to bad weather conditions. Besides, compared to touristy resorts traveling to off-the-beaten-track destinations is really pricey. Not only does such a type of traveling require significant money for booking tickets, but it also demands huge expenses on guides and equipment.
To sum up, visiting some remote areas instead of being on the safe can be both a blessing and a curse for a number of reasons. There are such benefits as fostering a feeling of achievement after facing difficulties and, in addition, an opportunity to relish unspoilt locations. On the other hand, setting off on rugged spots is unsafe and, in some cases, can even lead to death due to extreme weather conditions. Moreover, such a type of tourism is not affordable to everyone because of the high price for services and the needed equipment.
