As the increasing advancement of the Internet, teenagers seem to spend more and more time on social platforms instead of outdoor activities. In spite of the enjoyment they brings, there are several detrimental drawbacks.
First and foremost, overusing social networks has negative effects on humans’ physical health. When surfing the Internet, young adolescents spend too much time in front of the screen, causing a reduction in eyesight and some health issues related to internal organs, eyes, and ears. For example, based on exposure to blue light from technology devices, the young put extreme pressure on their eyes, which leads to eye diseases such as eye cancer and nearsightedness.
Secondly, if young adults spend excessive time on social platforms, they will lose the sense of community. They tend to be immersed in the virtual world, which has a great number of threats, such as cheating, frenemies, and toxic news. Therefore, teenagers may lose their social connections and relationships, that why there are more and more young people have to deal with mental problems.
In conclusion, because of social platforms’ pessimistic impact on both mental and physical health, the young need to balance their screen time and limit their use of the Internet.
