It is true that a number of young adults do not spend their weekends and holidays on outdoor activities in a natural environment. This trend is mainly caused by modern lifestyle, but I strongly believe that there are several ways to motivate young people to connect with nature.
One major reason is the rise of technologies. More and more young people prefer spending their valuable time not only on social media by scrolling through Instagram, but also playing computer games, and talking with unfamiliar people. This is because these activities do not require much energy like outdoor ones. As a result, many of the young adults are being lazy day by day, and also it can affect their studies.
Another important factor is that a large number of young people are spending their leisure time on preparing for exam. Most of them participate in extra classes to improve their knowledge. This, in turn, requires both energy and patient. Consequently, they feel themselves more exhausted mentally and unwilling to engage in physical demanding activities. In addition, some areas are far away from natural environment, or transportation might be expensive for some of them. Thus, most of the young adults cannot connect with nature.
To encourage young people to go outdoors, parents and teachers should organize entertaining adventures or picnics on weekends. Teachers should try to make children go there by sharing fascinating news, and negotiate to make transport more affordable. Moreover, parents should help their children manage time. If young people can organize it without any difficulties, they will be able to find time for both studying and travelling. As a consequence, children might prefer spending time with their close friend in a natural environment.
In summary, young people avoid outdoor activities mainly due to screen time, academic tiredness, and the expensive cars. However, I firmly believe that if parents and teacher try to make children participate in several outdoor activities, they may connect with nature.
