History holds great significance in a developing country, yet today, most of the young generation are more interested in the lives of famous people from social media instead of important historical figures. There are potential reasons for this, and some changes can be introduced to make history more interesting. In this essay, I will present the main triggers and some actions to enhance interest in the past.
In the age of technology, the internet, television, and advertisements have influenced individuals’ perspectives. Almost everyone uses social media, where they follow some public figures who only showcase the positive side of their lifestyle. The young community, who are unable to distinguish real life from the unreal world, start to easily admire whatever they see on the screen. Moreover, the teaching methods in schools have not changed for many years, which are not attractive for students. An exam-based educational system does not focus on learning about historical leaders but on achieving the best scores. For example, a study conducted by teachers shows that it is difficult for learners to memorize every information solely by reading books and memorizing data.
Nonetheless, there are a few ways to address this issue. The government plays a significant role in the lives of citizens through what they present to them. Organizing different festivals, scenes about cultural and traditional heritages, and the past can attract young people. It has also been proven that most of humanity has a more developed visual memory. Furthermore, the teaching style can be improved by designing attractive lessons with presentations, plays, and trips to historical places. Teachers can give engaging tasks, such as setting up a theater. While organizing a scene, students can conduct research on their own and find information that interests them. Additionally, electronic boards can be used by schools instead of traditional blackboards, allowing students to watch different films and videos about the past.
In conclusion, learning about the past can be very useful for achieving growth in the country. However, social media and boring learning methods make young people pay more attention to celebrities than historical leaders. Organizing festivals and scenes, and changing how students learn can solve these problems. From my perspective, showcasing more about the past will be beneficial for youngsters to boost their knowledge.
