In modern’s society, marriage has become a broad issue to the general public. It is argued that parents have the full right to decide their offspring’s marriage partner. While some believe that marriage is based on couples’ freedom choices. This essay will provide evidence of both views of this problem. I am one of those who strongly agree with the second perspective.
On the one hand, there are numerous reasons why arranged marriage gains support. Firstly, parents are those who have the deep understanding of life, so they will choose their daughter in law or son in law effectively. To be more specific, parents usually base on various factor such as characteristics and social status of potential partners which will be ideal for their children. Moreover, arranged marriage also ensures a stable and safe life for the spouse. When they have chosen partner, they do not take times to find. They won’t also have troubles in finance because they are chosen suitably.
On the other hand, it is undeniable that everyone should have the right to fall in love and choose their own marriage partner without intervention from others. Many couples sate that love lays foundation for a long-term and happiness marriage. Voluntary marriage is a modern and progressive view because it allows couples to recognize each other. They are able to accept their spouses’ shortcomings as well as sympathy with each other. Besides, a happy family makes a significant contribution to great children’s development. This will teach them to become caring and responsible citizens.
In conclusion, although arranged marriage brings certain merits, it seems to me that it is better for couples to choose their own partners.
